Iteration is defined as the act or process of repeating. For example, iteration can include repetition of a sequence of operations in order to get ever closer to a desired result. Iteration can also refer to a process wherein a computer program is instructed to perform a process over and over again repeatedly for a specific number of times or until a specific condition has been met. Note: Solver and Goal Seek are part of a suite of commands sometimes called what-if analysis tools. Both commands use iteration in a controlled way to obtain desired results.

SAFe also achieves the time and space for these alignment activities by forcing an aligned iteration cadence on the teams in each ART. This is a conscious tradeoff and is the same tradeoff that Scrum makes at the team level: some teams would prefer a shorter or longer iteration length but the benefits of an aligned cadence for the programme as a whole outweigh these individual team preferences.
